Politics

Subject: Re: Prize Rooster; A Lesson in Politics

John the farmer was in the fertilized egg business. He had several  hundred young layers (hens), called 'pullets', and ten roosters, whose job it was to fertilize the eggs.

The farmer kept records and any rooster that didn't perform went into  the soup pot and was replaced. That took an awful lot of his time, so he bought a set of tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone so John could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by listening to the bells.

The farmer's favorite rooster was old Bob, a very fine specimen he was, too. But on this particular morning John noticed old Bob's bell hadn't rung at all! John went to investigate.

The other roosters were chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing. The pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

But to Farmer John's amazement, old Bob had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. John was so proud of old Bob, he entered him in the  Renfrew County Fair and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The result…The judges not only awarded old Bob the No Bell Piece Prize but they also awarded him the Pulletsurprise as well.

Clearly old Bob was a politician in the making: who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention.

Vote carefully…the bells are not always audible.

Golf Practice Tips

Here's a ten cent tip. Take a dime and place it on the green practicing putting starting with 1-foot putts and increasing the distance when you consistently hit the dime with your putts. With this drill to improve concentration and focus, hitting the 4 1/2 inch cup will seem like a basketball hoop.

Another 10-cent putting drill would be to take a dime, place your ball on it and putt as usual but this time you'll keep you eye on the dime after the ball has left. This drill is aimed at helping you develop a consistent and reliable putting stroke by fighting the urge to follow the ball with your eyes, head and shoulders.

When To Take a Practice Golf Lessons With a Pro

"Reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is thinking that makes what we read ours." – John Locke, philosopher

When practicing, develop a good routine and think through every shot. Take a break if you get tired. Every shot should have purpose.

But if you’re practicing more when you're playing badly as opposed to when you're striking the ball well you should take a lesson. Don’t keep practicing a bad swing over and over again.

The road to achieving lower golf scores isn’t rocket science. Like most things in life, good old-fashioned hard work, constructive practice and lessons get you on track. Money spent on a lesson is money well spent and is both rewarding to your game and an enjoyable experience. The words and eyes of an expert get you on a sound platform. You'll benefit for their training and experience that can pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses and give you realistic goals to reach.

It’s a great opportunity to discuss equipment, practice drills practice drills to help you on the part of your game that you’re working on. You'll not just don't get advice on your swing but new insights on the psychology of golf, possible fitness and nutritional endurance advice and even creating a network of friends and future playing partners

Having an occasional lesson with a local professional will improve not only your golfing technique but give you more golfing knowledge and most importantly more golfing enjoyment.

"Ingenuity – plus courage – plus work – equals miracles." – Bob Richards, Olympic gold medalist

Todays Golf Clubs and Golf Balls

Most golf balls on sale today have about 300 - 450 dimples. Did you know only one manufacturer makes a golf ball with an odd number of dimples? The rest of the manufacture evenly numbered dimpled balls. The most dimples on a golf ball are recorded at 1,070. The basics of golf balls is that you need to match the golf ball to your swing.

If the compression of a golf ball does not match your swing speed, either the lack of compression or over-compression will occur, resulting distances not being reached. So if you have a  fast swing speed a high compression ball will give a lower loft and reach a greater distance. Most players need a low compression ball to match their style.

The Golf Swing

The objective of the swing is to create speed on the downsizing, not the back swing. A fast back swing will mess up the motion and rhythm of a shot. Keep a good rhythm by taking the club away from the ball slowly using your arms not your hands.

As the golf club starts back, your left shoulder and hips should turn naturally so that your weight can transfer to the right side. The hands should start to set at about waist high. As the golf club rises to the top, the shoulders continue to turn. It is important to have your hands set properly.

Next when you down swing to return the golf club head to the ball with maximum but controllable-speed. Too hard of a down swing can cause a perfect golf swing to go bad. If one pulls with their left arm from the top they will have all their whole body working in the shot and will likely hit consistently. Those who lead the downswing with the left side may slide ahead of the ball upon impact and run afoul a near perfect golf swing.

Finishing the golf swing one must have a good high finish. All that weight that one transferred to the right side in the back swing, must get transferred to the left side. A good finish will see your right knee facing the target, your right foot up and hands high and close to the left ear.
