Powerful drives and Iron shots
Big Freddy is back to help you channel the force within you and teach you to relax and hit long, long, massive drives by slowing down and focusing like the golf hustlers of the golden age were doing way before George Lucas thought up the Star Wars trilogy.
Hey look, we’ve all done it. We’ve all “muscled up” to hit a powerful, impressive tee shot and ended up with a weak drive that barely dribbled past the ladies tees. We’ve all banged up our Irons off the ground when trying to pound out a long 2nd shot.
This occurs from a loss of balance and greater tension due to trying so hard which always leads to errant shots.
In an effort to get over a water hazard perhaps, we get the small muscles in our hands, wrists, back and forearms overcharged and the energy prevents us from performing the swing correctly.
Get thee to a driving range! Put a ball on the tee and set up to hit.
If you’re a subscriber to my newsletter, than you’ve been following the same “set-up routine” every time you address the ball, if you missed it then sign up for my free newsletter on my website and I’ll send it to you – thegolfhustler.net
Now, ready to hit? Take one last look at your target, close your eyes and make your normal swing! Your mind will take over and the “force” will carry you, making you more conscious of maintaining your balance and feeling your way to the ball.
Concern yourself less with where the ball goes or even making solid contact. It’s much more important that you make yourself aware of your body and how slow and deliberate your swing becomes with your eyes closed.
Obviously, practice this at the range before just trying it on the course!
Now repeat the same swing with your eyes open, relying on the “force” to recreate that emotion and deliberate movement.
Alternate 3 drives and/or long Irons with eyes opened, 3 with eyes closed and this is extremely important – NEVER – worry where the ball goes, no matter how many people are at the range and how self-conscious you may initially feel.
Always try to be quite inside, “listening” to rhythm of your body and using the mind’s eye to put the club face on the ball.
The next time you go to the course, while waiting for your away, take a few practice swings with your eyes closed and then one with your eyes open and trust yourself to recreate that feeling, it’ll happen.
By adding this to your pre-shot routine, you’ll absolutely reduce tension and cut down on the swings ruined by the emotions of the game.
Could you place some bets at the range or tee box concerning your abilities to drive a ball blindfolded using this skill? I know I have, but that’s up to youJ. Most important, you’ll simply play better golf.
Thanks for reading. Good luck, good hustling.
